Croftin' The Fire n Ice Way: TR2 Collaboration

My ever talented, ever famous friends =Forty-Fathoms and *SupermanOfToday and I are at it again! We wanted to capture a moment of Tomb Raider 2 that isn't seen much in fan art, and that is the area with the large pot of molten liquid that Lara needs to dump to melt the pond below. I've always thought this moment would be a great drawing, however it wasn't until Sarah (=Forty-Fathoms) and I talked about it that I could visualize in my mind how it would look.

Sarah drew Lara in the pose and the rocks she is perched on. Adam, or *SupermanOfToday, did the inks on Lara and the rocks, and I did the background lines, ink, and colored the picture.

To achieve the "glowy" look of the lava, it was important that to create a contrast between the hotness of the lava and the coldness of the background. Being that this particular area of the level is pretty bright, I could not use black as a contrast. So, what I did was I used subtle layers of Prismacolor Cloud Blue, Light Aqua, Muted Turquoise, and True Blue. I was very pleased with the result, although I think there is too much detail on the cliff face rocks.
